Opening Night Recaps

CHA 5 at Ottawa 2
First period goals by Couture and Steen staked the Tuques to a two goal lead. The Cougars roared back, scoring five times in the third period, for the win. Callahan's power play goal broke up Luongo's shutout bid, opening the floodgates for goals by Malkin, Kopitar, Peverly and Gilbert. Cam Ward stopped 35 of 37 shots for the win.

London 3 at El Paso 2
Brian Gionta's late first period goal put El Paso ahead, but three unanswered goals from Getzlaf, Erat and Vanek were too much for the Puck to overcome. Pavelski's power play tally in the final minute proved to be too little, too late.

at PU 5, Lombard 1
Following a Lecavalier power play conversion just over six minutes into the game, it was all PU. Ovechkin, Backstrom, Neal, Stewart and Stoll all scored for the Unknowns, while Rinne stopped 27 of 28 shots.

at SHF 4, Manitoba 2
Crosby scored two goals in a 42 second span in the first five minutes of the game. Moulson and Iginla added goals for the High Flyers, while Skinner and Henrik Sedin registered third period, power play tallies for the Mudders.

Newfoundland 2 at Whitehorse 1
Goals by Grabner and Selanne left this game deadlocked at one. Boyle's third period, power play goal, off a beautiful feed from Datsyuk, proved to be the difference in a goaltending duel between Lundqvist, who stopped 33 of 34 shots, and Thomas, who allowed only two goals on 26 shots.
