Lombard 3, at Ottawa 1
Price stopped 40 of 41 shots, the lone exception being a Kulikov wrister through heavy traffic, to earn his first victory of the season. Zetterberg opened the scoring with his first of the year, off a nice feed from Eriksson. Following Kulikov’s goal, Richards put the game away with a pair of goals, both assisted by Stamkos and Ryan.
Manitoba 5, at London 3
First period goals by Lidstrom and Nash put the Fog out front early. Following a short-handed goal by Knuble it appeared the rout was on. The Mudders had other ideas. Goals by Skinner and Montador narrowed the gap, and then Pominville scored twice in three and a half minutes to take the lead. Koivu added an insurance marker late in the third, making it five unanswered goals by the Mudders.
At PU 4, Newfoundland 0
Rinne stopped 27 shots, some in spectacular fashion, for the whitewash. Ovechkin and Tavares scored in the first period, and Dubinsky and Neal added third period markers as PU cruised to victory.
At El Paso 2, Whitehorse 1
Thomas was the star of the game for 51 minutes, stopping 45 of 46 El Paso shots before an injury forced him out of the game. Kane scored a late first-period goal and McBain answered with a goal in the final seconds of the second period to tie the game. Kessel then beat Howard, off a Pavelski feed for the game winning goal. Dubnyk stopped 15 shots for the win.
