At Lombard 5, London 2
Jordan Staal scored a pair of goals and Price stopped 18 shots to lead the Lightning. Richards and Stall staked the Lightning to an early lead before a Kovalchuk tally cut into the lead. Goals by Stamkos, Lecavalier and Staal’s second of the game put it out of reach. Seidenberg added the ”Troy Murray Goal” late in the third period.
PU 3 at CHA 3
Dubinsky scored twice and Malkin set up a pair of goals as the Cougar and the Unknowns played to a draw. Early goals by Weiss and Kopitar in a 1:56 span put CHA ahead, but Dubinsky and Green scored within 2:12 to tie the game. Dubinsky’s second, scored in the first minute of the second period put PU on top, but Brown answered 1:13 later to deadlock the game at 3. From there it was all Rinne and Ward. Ward finished with 37 saves while Rinne stopped 27 shots.
At Newfoundland 3, Southampton 1
Lundqvist stopped 33 of 34 shots in leading the Seals to victory. Lundqvist helped offensively as well, catching the High Flyers in a bad line change and hitting Selanne for a power play goal to open the scoring. ALF answered for Southampton, but goals by Meszaros and Holmstrom won it for the Seals. Hiller made 35 saves in a losing effort.
Whitehorse 4 at Manitoba 3
The Stallions exploded for four second period goals, erasing a 3-0 deficit and stealing 2 points from the Mudders. Stafford, Koivu and Daniel Sedin tallied in the first period to put the Mudders in front. Power play goals by Semin and Kane cut the Manitoba lead to one, and even strength goals by Marchand and Weber completed the comeback for Whitehorse. Thomas recovered from a shaky first period to record 31 saves in the victory, while Niemi gave up four goals on only 14 shots.
