Recaps for games of 12-16-2011

Manitoba 5, at Whitehorse 3
Daniel and Henrik scored three points apiece, including one third period goal each to snap a 3-3 tie and lead the Mudders to victory. Koivu and Ladd also scored for Manitoba, and Yandle set up three goals for the Mudders. Elias recorded three points with a goal and two assists for the Stallions, who got their other goals from unlikely sources, Greene and Scuderi.

At El Paso 3, PU 1
Kostitsyn and Sharp scored in the third to snap a 1-1 tie and lift El Paso to victory. Byfuglien scored a power play goal on a blast from the point to open the scoring, before Backstrom answered in the second with his tenth of the year. Dubnyk earned first star honors by stopping 19 of 20 shots.

At London 3, Newfoundland 2
Cammalleri tipped in a pass from Getzlaf to break a 2-2 deadlock and cap a come from behind victory. Goals by Selanne and Thornton staked the Seals to a 2-0 advantage halfway through the game. Laich’s second period goal got the Fog going, and Vanek’s third period power play tally tied the game. Reimer was named second star for stopping 23 of 25 shots, and London outshot the Seals 17-6 in the decisive third period.
