Goals by Stamkos and Lucic, a minute and eighteen seconds apart, late in the third period, vaulted the Lightning to victory. Richards and MacArthur beat Price, who stopped 34 shots, while Zetterberg’s seventh of the season accounted for the other Lombard goal.
El Paso 7, at PU 2
Kostitsyn scored his first two goals of the season and Frans Nielsen set up three goals as the Puck thrashed the Unknowns. Keith, Gionta, Kessel, Sharp and Marleau scored the other El Paso goals. Neal and Backstrom each scored their sixth goal of the year for PU.
At Manitoba 2, London 1
Crawford made 37 saves to make first goals of the season by both Antropov and Hornqvist stand up for the win. Bryzgalov stopped 33 of 35 shots, and Jones scored for the Fog.
At Whitehorse 3, Newfoundland 0
Howard, who apparently has seized the starting job from Thomas, made 29 saves to record his first shutout of the season. Carter led the way with a goal and an assist, while Elias and Plekanec added goals for the Stallions.
At Southampton 5, Ottawa 1
Crosby scored two goals and added an assist, while Hiller stopped 34 shots for the win. Penner, Kesler and Robidas added goals for Southampton. Kulikov accounted for the lone Ottawa goal, beating Hiller through a screen to tie the game at one early in the second period.
